‘This is my Place’
Last summer Oasis Academy Arena embarked on a new journey, the Hub team moved in to the facility and created a beautiful space for the community.
One of the first community projects they embarked on was bringing Oasis Encounter to Arena to deliver our amazing parenting support group in person. The process involved us speaking to the community and our schools, identifying barriers and putting together a eight week programme that could support our community and become a place for them to be!
We welcomed our families & community by offering a safe space for them to come and eat as we provided a evening meal and an opportunity to dine together. We also offered a child care facility so that many took us up on, it gave their children valuable social time whilst adults could engage.
This became the place weekly where they would come & experience our amazing Encounter programme in person. It became the place where they were able to share there struggles, connect with others & build friendships. It became the place where they learnt how to raise their parental presence & strengthen their relationships with their children. It was the place they could get valuable advice, learning to de-escalate, helping them to look after themselves and offering a support network like no other.
For those eight weeks in the summer we created a warm environment which our families really embraced, there was a huge pride in our community as we worked to strengthen it. We shared laughter & tears over some amazing food and were able to improve so many of our families’ relationships.
It didn’t end there either, our families still come back for regular check ins where again it is the place to be with great conversations, success stories, great food & strong relationships with a great sense of community. This is the place and continues to be the place as we welcome our next in-person Encounter to Arena.
