British Values & SMSC
In 2014, the UK Government created five fundamental values that it proclaimed were the unifying values that were fundamental to British society and cohesion. The values were designed to balance freedom of thought, expression and choice in a liberal society with the need to maintain a safe and secure society. Our Academy is committed to ensuring British Values are upheld and encompassed alongside our own ethos of being Kind, Ambitious and Professional.
Promoting British Values
The Department for Education has an effective five-part definition of British Values which includes:
- The Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of individuals with different faiths & beliefs
At our Academy students encounter these principles throughout everyday academy life; in particular, our promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural through our curriculum (some of which is outlined below) and our values.
The curriculum is mapped in detail across the whole Academy (visible in our subject information section). Listed below are some examples of how we promote British Values in our academy:
Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC)
Please find below an outline of where our curriculum supports the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural understanding of our students:
